Hey there, high-energy and aggressive chewing dog parents! We have been where you are, trying to find the perfect “indestructible dog toy” that won’t get shredded immediately.
Every product photo shows a Belgian Malinois or a Rottweiler happily playing, but all you can picture are the last five toys that ended up in the trash within a day. Heck, we would even be happy with a “mildly destructible toy” at this point.
After YEARS of buying those toys for our dog Ava (featured in the photo below and all the videos on this page), we are excited to share the toys she loves that can go toe-to-toe with German Shepherd playtime. Every dog is different, so we included footage of Ava playing with these products to give you a better sense of the toys.

Jolly Pets Push-N-Play Herding Ball
First up, let’s talk about the Jolly Pets Herding Ball. This isn’t just any ball – it’s a game-changer.
Tough and durable, Jolly Pets products are designed to be pushed and herded by larger dogs. This ball provides hours of fun while engaging your dog’s natural herding instincts. Ava loves this thing so much that she can’t walk past it without trying to play. It’s our GO-TO solution when we can only do a short walk and need to tire her out for the day.
If you have a sturdy, energetic dog who likes to play chase, this ball is awesome for exercise and recreation, especially if your pup is a herding breed like an Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Sheep Dog, or Belgian Malinois.
Our only word of caution is to make sure you supervise playtime. The Jolly Pets herding balls are made of plastic and if your dog routinely pushes the ball with their mouth, it can wear down their teeth over time.

KONG Extreme Goodie Bone
Next up, we have the KONG Extreme Goodie Bone. Ava is typically a little reserved when it comes to new toys. It usually takes her a few days of nudging and ignoring a toy before showing any interest, but she was instantly OBSESSED with the Goodie Bone. She carries it from floor to floor in our house, almost like a German Shepherd baby blanket.
If you have an aggressive chewer, this ultra-durable toy is for them. Designed for breeds like German Shepherds, Dobermans, Labradors, and Pitbulls, it’s made to withstand strong jaws and extended chewing sessions. Ava’s bone has lasted for years. The natural rubber is also excellent for dental health.
The Goodie Bone has holes on each end that you can stuff with peanut butter or Ava’s favorite, KONG Easy Treat filler. Stuffing the toy adds a challenge and extra mental stimulation, perfect for keeping them occupied while you are trying to relax!
KONG products are a well-loved necessity in our home. Check out our KONG 101 post to learn more about the benefits and uses of KONG toys.

Jolly Pets - Soccer Ball
If your high-energy dog enjoys catch, chase, or keep-away, this ball is a dream come true. THIS BALL WILL NOT DEFLATE! Made from flexible rubber material, it doesn’t deflate or lose shape, no matter how often your dog punctures it.
Even though Ava has put more than a couple of holes in the ball, it still pops back up to its original shape. It also floats, so it’s excellent for water-fetch games at the beach or lake. She’s had her current one for a little over a year now.
Our only warning is to supervise play time if your dog tends to shred things. While the ball is durable and regains its shape repeatedly, if your dog makes large enough holes, they could shred the entire ball.
